Confessions from Scripture: Overcoming Fear and Worry

Not given a spirit of fear: God did not give me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7

No spirit of bondage to fear: I didn’t receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but I have received the Spirit of adoption, by whom I cry, “Abba! Father!” Romans 8:15

Delivered from the fear of death: Christ partook of our humanity, so that through death he brought to nothing him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and delivered all of us who through fear of death who were subject to bondage. Hebrews 2:14, 15

Perfected love cast out fear: There is no fear in love; but perfected love cast out my fear, because fear carries the expectation of punishment. I overcome all fear by maintaining God’s perfect standard of love in my life. 1 John 4:18

The Lord is my helper: Lord, you have said that you will in no way leave me, neither will you in any way forsake me. So I can courageously say, “The Lord is my helper. I will not fear. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5, 6

Delivered from all my fears: I sought The Lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. Because I continue to look to him, I’m radiant; my face is never covered with shame. Psalms 34:5, 6

The Lord is my refuge: I shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that wastes at noonday… because I have made the Lord my refuge, and the Most High my dwelling place, no evil shall happen to me, neither shall any plague come near my dwelling. Psalm 91:5, 6, 9, 10

I will fear no evil: Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you, O Lord, are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalms 23:4

The Lord is the strength of my life: The Lord is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid? When evil-doers come at me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and my foes, they will stumbled and fall. Though a crowd should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear. Though war should rise against me, Even then I will be confident. Psalms 27:1-3

Peace, not as the world gives: Christ has left me his peace. His peace he has given to me and not the peace that the world gives. Thus, I do not let my heart be troubled, or let it be fearful. John 14:27

Do not fear what others fear: Who will harm me, if I imitate that which is good? But even if I should suffer for righteousness’ sake, I will be blessed. I do not fear what other people fear, neither am I troubled. 1 Peter 3:13, 14

Not frightened by adversaries: I am in no way frightened by my adversaries, which is for them a sign of their doom, but to me of my deliverance from God. Because it has been granted to me on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in him, but also to suffer on his behalf, Philippians 1:28, 29

Seek first God’s Kingdom: I shall not be anxious, saying, ‘What will I eat?’, ‘What will I drink?’ or, ‘With what will I wear?’ For the pagans seek after all these things, yet my heavenly Father knows that I need all these things. But I seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to me as well. Therefore I am not anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Matthew 6:31-34

Guarded by the Peace of God: Because I override anxiety by taking every issue and request to God through prayer and petition with thanksgiving; the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guards my heart and my mind through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6, 7

Casting all my cares: Since God resists the proud but gives more grace to the humble I keep myself submitted under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt me in due time; I cast each and every care on him, because he cares for me. 1 Peter 5:5-7

No fear of conspiracies: For as the Lord has spoken to me and instructed me with a strong hand, I do not to walk in the way of this people, calling things, “A conspiracy!” as according to what these people say is, “A conspiracy!” neither do I fear what they fear, nor will I be in dread of them. Isaiah 8:11, 12
