Confessions from Scripture: Controlling Our Thoughts

Do not think too highly of yourself: I do not think more highly of myself than I ought to think; but I think reasonably according to the measure of faith that as God has given me. Romans 12:3

Throwing down of strongholds: For though I walk in the flesh, I do not wage war according to the flesh; for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ; 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

Dwell on these things: Whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are commendable; if there is any excellence, and if there anything worthy of praise, these are the type of things that I allow my mind to dwell on. Philippians 4:8

Having the same attitude that was in Christ Jesus: I embrace the same attitude that also was in Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, didn’t consider equality with God something to hold on too, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, yes, the death of the cross. Philippians 2:5-8

Contemplate our Apostle and High Priest, Jesus: Therefore, as member of the holy brethren and partaker of a heavenly calling, I contemplate the Apostle and High Priest of my confession, Jesus. Hebrews 3:1

Set your mind on the things that are above: Since I have been raised together with Christ, I seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God. I set my mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth. Colossians 3:1, 2

Equip myself with the same mind as Christ: Because Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, I equip myself also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin; that I no longer should live the rest of my time in the flesh seeking the lusts of men, but accomplishing the will of God. 1 Peter 4:1, 2

We have Christ’s mind: For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct him?” But I do have Christ’s mind. 1 Corinthians 2:16

Trust in the Lord with all your heart: I trust in the Lord with all my heart and I do not lean on my own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

Thinking myself to be something when I am nothing: If I think myself to be something when I am nothing, then I deceive myself. But rather, I test my own work, and then I can take pride in myself. Galatians 6:3, 4
