Our Source of True Freedom

July 2, 2011
Most assuredly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin. A bondservant doesn't live in the house forever. A son remains forever. If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:34-36 As we celebrate our nation’s independence we need to remind ourselves of what is the source of all true freedom, which is Christ who is God’s Son and the Anointed One. Jesus overcame. He overcame sin, self, Satan, death and the world, “In the world you have oppression; but cheer up! I have overcome the world,” John 16:33. And by

Practicing “For me to live is Christ”

June 25, 2011
Back in May 2008 the Lord began leading me to study what it means to live with God as my source. I have learned a lot during these last three years. Much of what I have learned has been summarized in the article Discover that God is your Source. At first I focused on seeking God as my source for provision and then later for guidance but now He has shown me that I can even seek him as my source on the most basic level: on how to live moment by moment. I think the Apostle Paul expressed

Increase our fruitfulness: Abiding in Christ

June 19, 2011

Just as we stay connected to God’s word through meditation, we also need to stay connected to our Lord Jesus Christ through the practice of abiding. He is our vital link to the life of God. He not some far off or a remote supernatural being who is not concerned with our needs and difficulties. He is very close to each one of us. He is living in us. He cares for us. He is the source of life; the source for everything we need. It is through our relationship with them that we gain access to his life

Increase our fruitfulness: Meditating on the Word of God

June 12, 2011
Just like with guarding our hearts, meditating on the word of God also makes us fruitful. The writer of Psalm 1 speaks about rejecting the wisdom of the ungodly, avoiding the path of sinners and never taking up with those who are scoffers, but teaches that through delighting and mediating on the word of God night and day we will become prosperous and fruitful as a tree planted by the streams of water. A tree planted by the streams of water flourishes in every season. It is never restricted by dry conditions. Those streams of water provide the nourishment that

Increase our fruitfulness: Guarding our hearts

June 5, 2011

It is important that we learn to guard what goes into our hearts. Fruit bearing, you see, starts on the inside and works it ways out through our actions and our manner of speaking. Jesus said in Luke 6:

For there is no good tree that brings forth rotten fruit; nor again a rotten tree that brings forth good fruit. For each tree is known by its own fruit. For people don't gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings out

What Kind of Fruit is God Looking For?

May 29, 2011
So you may be asking, what kind of fruit is God looking for from my life? There are several kinds of fruit including:
  • Our character – the traits that determine how we respond to the circumstances we encounter.
  • Our good deeds – our selfless and conscientious actions that help our families, our friends and even strangers. The Apostle Peter tells us, “having good behavior among the nations, so in that which they speak against you as evil-doers, they may by your good works, which they see, glorify God in the day of visitation,” 1 Peter 2:12.
  • Our speaking – the things we say

Can You Pass the Fruit Bearing Test?

May 22, 2011
As I wrote about in a previous post, God likes fruit, those things that we do to be a blessing to others. And it is interesting to discover that He tests us to see if we are producing fruit as Jesus explained in Luke 13:

A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it, and found none. He said to the vine dresser, 'Behold, these three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and found none. Cut it down. Why does it waste the

When Will Jesus Return?

May 22, 2011
When and under what circumstances will Christ return? There is a time coming when Jesus Christ, God’s Anointed One, will return physically and visibility, not to destroy the world, but to set up his kingdom on the earth (see Revelation 19:11-16). Yet, before that event Jesus, the Apostle Paul, tells us is coming for his body, the church:

For this we tell you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left to the coming of the Lord, will in no way precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend

God is our Source for Bearing Fruit

May 15, 2011
Today we want to talk about fruit. You know, everybody likes fruit. While I was living in the Central American country of Belize I enjoyed eating all the tropical fruits; fruits such as mangoes, tangerines, papaya and pineapples.  Obviously, fruit is great gift that God has given to mankind, but what would our lives be like if there were no fruits? Would you get up in the morning and have a glass of carrot juice with your breakfast? Would you eat radishes with cake and ice cream? After eating dinner, would you finish your meal with a piece of potato

Are You a Good Receiver?

May 8, 2011
Receiving, everybody is interesting in receiving, especially those things that God has for his children. Yet, have you ever thought about how important is the manner in which we receive the blessings of God? Our attitudes can effect how much or how often we receive. Let us consider the following: 1 We need to be thankful for what we have. God provides us multiple blessings everyday, yet many of us never take time to thank him for what we receive and to thank him for what we already have, “and be thankful,” Colossians 316b. 2. We need to have a positive expectation
