A Daily Expectation

LORD, in the morning you shall hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and will watch expectantly. Psalm 5:3

When you wake up and get out of bed each morning, what kind of expectations do you have concerning the new day?

  • Are you dreading the tasks that you will be dealing with?
  • Are you worried about your current circumstances?
  • Are you grieved about disappointments and losses in your life?

But why should you and I as believers in God, who revealed himself to Abraham in Genesis 17:1 as El Shaddai, The All Sufficient God, why should we be weighed down by a load of care? Why should we attempt to deal with difficulties on our own; in our own limited strength and with our own shortsighted ideas?

Remember that God cares for us and knows each of us intimately (Matthew 10:29-31) . He wants us to stop struggling and team up with Him so that we can discover the purpose and satisfaction  that He intended for lives: His abundant life (John 10:10), a life without end or limit that is found as we live in harmony with God through Jesus Christ.

We can live victoriously as we learn to get in tune with God by:

  • Spending time with him and with his word (John 15:7).
  • Casting all our care on him (1 Peter 5:6-7).
  • Learning to listen to his voice (John 10:3-4).
  • Being obedient to his word (John 2:5).

If we make living in this manner our daily practice we can expect to see God at work in and through our lives each day. And we will discover that He has gifts lined up and waiting for us along the way. He knows what things we like. He knows what things will surprise us and will brighten our day. Thus, we should have a daily expectation that we will see and experience the grace and favor of our loving heavenly Father (1 Corinthians 2:9). We have things to look forward to! Let us then cast off all our cares and look with expectancy for the goodness that God will reveal to us today.
